FAQS

How many litres of beans do I need?
There are a lot of different suppliers manufacturing different types of bean bags. We aren’t able to advise how many litres of beans you need because we don’t know the exact shape/size of your bean bag.
Here are some suggestions:
- Look for an instruction manual / packaging that comes with the bean bag
- Search online for the store / seller or the brand of the bean bag
- Contact the store or seller
- Try out our Bean Bag Volume Calculator
- Make an appointment with us and bring your cover down for us to fill it on the spot

I require "X" kg of beans. How many litres should I buy?
If your bean bag has filling instructions in weight (as opposed to volume), please refer to the following conversion chart (for regular EPS beans):
- 1kg: 71L
- 2kg: 143L
- 3kg: 214L
- 4kg: 286L
What are your beans made of?
We have bean bag beans of two materials:
- Expanded Polystyrene (EPS): material used in disposable plates, bowls, boxes and packing material (“peanuts”) for cushioning fragile items inside boxes.
- Expanded Polypropylene (EPP): material used for odd-shaped packaging and in automotive parts such as the head rest
How often do I need to top up my bean bag?
Bean bags will have to be topped up eventually; the time it takes for it to become too slack to be comfortable is both subjective to the user’s personal comfort and the frequency that the bean bag is used. The reason for this is that with use, the beans settle and compress a little.
50L to 100L should suffice for a top up, depending on how slack the bean bag is and how large the bean bag cover is.
I want to top up my bean bag, but how much beans should I buy?
50L to 100L should suffice for a top up, depending on how slack the bean bag is and how large the bean bag cover is.
Bean bags now come in all shapes and sizes. In general, the more defined the shape (e.g. armchair shaped bean bags) the more filled it should be. Conversely, the simpler the shape (e.g. teardrop or rectangular shaped bean bags) should have some slack for the user to manipulate the bean bag into a comfortable shape.
Ultimately, the amount to be filled varies with individual preference. The more you fill, the stiffer the bean bag.
Generally, we advise our customers to overestimate how much they need for two reasons. Buying not enough means having to spend inordinately more on the small and extra amount that you are short of. Secondly, buying extra means that you will have a ready supply of beans to top up your bean bag when it does get too slack.
How do I fill up a bean bag?
Always fill your bean bags in as windless an environment as possible. Switch off any fans, shut the windows, etc. It’s going to be warm, but cleaning up the mess made by a gust of wind is going to make you even warmer.
You will have a much easier time if you had another person helping you fill your bean bag. One of you should be taking care of doing the filling, while the other should hold the bean bag’s opening open.
If your bean bag is large, it would help if the person with the beans is in an elevated position. On a stool, or some other stable and elevated item.
Can you fill up my bean bag for me?
Yes, we can! Please make an appointment with us to bring your bean bag cover down to our warehouse. We will fill the bean bag up to our recommended level, and let you know how many litres of beans are used. Besides the price of the beans, you will need to pay a labour charge for the filling service.
The labour charge for filling is:
- first bean bag: free
- subsequent bean bags: $10 per piece
How do I wash / clean my bean bag?
If your bean bag comes with an inner bag, you can remove the cover for washing / cleaning.
Depending on the material of the cover, these are the different ways:
- Spandex: machine-washable
- Polyester: hand-wash, or wipe with a damp cloth
- Cotton Canvas: hand-wash separately (colour might run slightly)
